Welcome
Welcome to DJB Advocacy. I know what it feels like to be sick, frightened, and overwhelmed by the healthcare system. My job is to show up, sit beside you, keep track of the details, ask questions, and help ensure your voice is heard. You and your family do not have to navigate this alone.
Read John’s story[0:00] Hi, my name's John Bishop.
[0:02] I know what it feels like to lie in a hospital bed sick.
[0:06] You're frightened, you're scared, and you're really not sure if anyone's listening.
[0:12] I spent 213 days in-patient in hospitals just like you.
[0:18] I survived 17 reoccurrences of MRSA in my spine.
[0:24] Now I sit along patients similar to you, their family, their friends, their loved ones...
[0:30] right next to their bedside.
[0:32] I help them gather information, ask questions, organize details, and get through the system.
[0:39] And I make absolutely certain that they do not have to face it alone.
How John can help

A clearer view of the people, systems, and decisions involved in a complicated episode of care.
Help keeping agreed tasks, appointments, referrals, and transitions visible across a complex care plan.
Nonclinical organization of records so important dates, events, questions, gaps, and conflicts are easier to discuss with qualified providers.
Preparation and support for the fast-moving conversations that happen during a hospital stay.
Patient-centered advocacy for MRSA and other serious infections, informed by John’s personal experience navigating recurrent infection and complex care.
A distinctive area of focus
John’s own healthcare journey included recurrent MRSA spinal infections, hospitalizations, specialty care, and the work of keeping complex information connected. That experience informs a patient-centered approach to serious-infection advocacy.

Reflections on the clarity, preparation, and steady support John brings to difficult healthcare moments.
“My 86-year-old mother was recently in the hospital after a fall. She had been dealing with some skin cancer issues prior to this visit and had broken her arm in the fall. We discovered that she had major blockage in her arteries, which caused her to black out and fall. It was just one thing after another. While she was in the hospital and during her care afterward, John helped us understand the pathways through all the medical speak and ask the right questions to get her the best care during this trying time. After several operations to remove the skin cancer and then address the heart issues, we got her home and got her the care she needed to get her back on her feet. Thanks, John, for your help and advice.”
“I was recently hospitalized due to new, sudden-onset, incredibly severe pain. I’m also an independent patient advocate, like John, and despite my familiarity with the medical system, I was in so much pain that I could no longer really communicate, much less advocate for myself. John stepped in on the spot during this emergency situation. He quickly assessed the situation, and within five minutes, he was on the phone with my nurse to advocate for appropriate pain management. Throughout my six-day hospitalization, he was present virtually for multiple doctor visits and was in touch with nursing staff, helping communicate and advocate for my needs—ensuring that my pain was being adequately managed and planning for a safe discharge home at the appropriate time, with a care plan that would allow me to function and regain my independence. I cannot thank John enough for everything he did. He helped me in my greatest time of need and did so with great empathy, compassion, and professionalism. Everyone needs an advocate like John, even advocates themselves.”
“Mr. John Bishop has been an incredible patient advocate for me during an extremely difficult and complicated medical journey. He is compassionate, persistent, and truly dedicated to helping me find the right medical care. John continues to listen to me, support me, help me navigate the healthcare system, and advocate on my behalf when I need it most. I am extremely grateful for his dedication and would highly recommend him to anyone who needs a caring and committed patient advocate.”
